In this chapter, the basic processes involved in the policy creation up to its actual enforcement are presented. The precise understanding of the phases and processes involved is crucial for the understanding of policy management, which leads to the concept of metapolicies developed in this thesis.
I extracted the functionality required for the application of policies and identified the functional areas. Based on this analysis I developed an enhanced policy life cycle presented here.
Before going into the details, however, I will first give a brief summary of the context in which policy life cycles and related processes were mentioned. The chapter closes with a summary and discussion of the presented material.
